Prior to entering the world of academia I held a number of various positions in various types of employment. I began my working life at the age of 16, opting to leave school early to work at a local factory in Port Talbot. I have also worked as a television installation engineer and a heavy goods vehicle driver. With hindsight the decision to leave early school was simultaneously detrimental and beneficial to me. Detrimental in so much as it has taken me a long time to reach my academic potential but beneficial as my life experience has given me a wealth of perspectives on a number of different subjects.
I am also a father of two wonderful children who have positively shaped my character in many different ways, and they have also contributed greatly to my decision to leave heavy industry and pursue academic excellence.
